Our aim is to exceed expectations.

Our aim is to exceed expectations. At BRCU, architecture is more than design — it is about understanding how buildings perform, how they age, and how they can be restored and improved while respecting their architectural integrity.

We specialize in septic design, restoration architecture, building envelope consulting, and getting existing work permitted, providing services that address façade rehabilitation, historic material conservation, regulatory compliance, and ongoing building maintenance. Our work often involves complex buildings where technical precision, coordination with contractors, and compliance with Municipal regulations are essential.

By combining careful analysis, detailed documentation, and practical design solutions, BRCU helps building owners protect their investments while preserving the architectural character of the structures that shape our city.

BRCU was founded in 2015 by
Principal Architect Matthew C. LaPiana.

Matthew earned a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University at Buffalo and has complemented his academic studies with a significant amount of construction experience. With a passion for knowledge, keen design skills and an unwavering work ethic, Matthew focused on a developing a 360° understanding of design and construction by mastering his trade through 15 years of field experience as a mason’s laborer, carpenter, estimator and construction project manager. This “cemented” Matthew’s knowledge of how successful structures are built and how projects succeed.

Following graduation, he went on to extend the learning process, accepting a position as a design engineer in one of America’s most distinguished historic preservation companies – Boston Valley Terra Cotta. Building on this base, he furthered his technical understanding of how buildings function, working for several accomplished structural engineering consulting firms in New York City. There, he aggregated his previous roles to become the lead in many high-value, multi-story, multi-use restoration projects.
